  • As has been reported by Anime News Service, the reason for that AT-X cancelled its planned broadcast of the new series Space Pirate Captain Harlock ~ The Endless Odyssey ~ was that Matsumoto Leiji objected on religious grounds. According to Asahi.com, Mainichi Shimbun and Nikkei Net, the aliens in the show, who are portrayed as "the origin of evil", attack the Earth using a weapon which appears to bear the Star of David on it, raising concerns in Matsumoto of anti-Semitism, something contrary to his beliefs. Matsumoto is reported as saying that it is his motto that the hearts of those who believe in religion should not be injured and that the profaning of a religious symbol should not be allowed.
